Did some decent running between Gate 94 and Gate 24. RyanAir had 2 flights to Alicante just 10 minutes apart and it was not very clear which one is which… I was 2715 and luckily I noticed that I was queuing for 2717A. Gates were announced late as well, so… I had to run. I arrived early still.
Flight was delayed due to the previous flight coming in late. I boarded around 10:15. Took off at 11:09. We landed at 14:10 local time.
Took C-6 directly from Departures entrance and in 15 minutes I was in Alicante.
Passeig de l’Esplanada
It’s a lovely place to walk under the palms and enjoy the views around. All restaurants and cafes have chairs and tables outside, so people can enjoy the weather.
Casa Carbonell
It’s a beautiful building located on Passeig de l’Esplanada. Lovely little shop with interesting Souvenirs located at the corner.
El Barrio de Santa Cruz
Quickly went past it on my way to the castle. Colourful houses and very chilled atmosphere.
Castell de Santa Barbara
A steep hike, which I enjoyed. Taking the rural paths pays off with even more beautiful views. The castle is free to visit – all they asked for is where I came from. The castle has amazing views on 360°. Make sure to go to the top and take a look from the various viewpoints. There are different options to go up and down, so I went up one way and went down a different way, so I can explore more.
Mushroom Street
To get to Mushroom Street, I went through the main parts of the town. Late lunch is definitely a thing. For some reason, I was thinking that the place looked like Brighton in the evening, but on steroids. It was very busy, very colourful. Everyone was having their meal/drinks out on the street.
Mushroom Street itself was cute and I enjoyed looking at the different designs of the mushrooms.
I have noticed, that if you want a more serious meal, you need to sit down and wait for it to be prepared. I didn’t have time for this, so I went to McDonalds and confirmed that they food they offer in Spain is way more what I like, comparing to the McDonalds in the UK.
Platja del Postiguet
The beach was beautiful, clean and, although many people were out, there was still plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view and the sounds of the sea.
C-6 on the way back was hellish. Have in mind that the bus does a loop around Alicante rather than going back the same route. So getting to the airport took about twice the time it took to get to Alicante.
Overall, a great trip. A bit more touristy than I would prefer it to be but it was beautiful and the beach wasn’t too busy (probably because it’s December).
