Day 4 of my Sunny Escapes Trip travel diary took me to a stunning beach cuddled between the tall mountains and the crystal-clear sea. Read here how I discovered one of Italy’s most beautiful hidden gems.
I took a long stroll between Formia and Gaeta, mostly walking along the beach. It’s out of the tourism season, so I had the whole beach to myself. It was amazing having so much space in this beautiful location – with the green mountains on one side and the clear warm water to the other.
It was slightly cloudy, yet warm. I could clearly see the dark cloud forming around the mountain peaks, but down on the coast the weather was calm.
I had lunch at a beach-side restaurant with a view over Gaeta. The Pasta al Pomodoro was just right!
On my way back, it started drizzling and then very quickly the weather turned and before I knew it, I was waking back fast, in the pouring rain. Luckily, I had an umbrella, otherwise, I was going to be stuck under the nearest shelter.
I visited the local supermarket and got myself tomatoes, meats, cheese and olives for dinner. I also got some local oranges. I felt like a bought a lot, but my bill was just under 15 EUR.
I came back to my AirBnB just as the temperatures dropped. I made myself a delicious dinner and enjoyed it in the garden. I didn’t go out again as my shoes were soaked and the weather turned quite chilly.
There is something very cozy about this little town, cuddled between the mountain and the sea. Even bad weather here is absolutely charming!
